Celińska was born on April 29, 1944, into a family steeped in artistic tradition. Her father, Stefan, was a pianist, while her mother, Barbara, played the violin in the Polish Army Orchestra. She attended the XLI Liceum Ogólnokształcącym in Warsaw and graduated from the National Academy of Dramatic Art in 1969. During her studies, she was mentored by Ryszarda Hanin and Ryszard Barycz. Her diploma performance was the play “Gwiazdy i winogrona,” directed by Marian Jonkajtys.
Career in Theater and Film
Celińska’s passion for acting began in her youth. As a child, she participated in nativity plays, and by 12, inspired by Helena Modrzejewska’s biography, she decided to pursue acting. She actively engaged in theatrical circles and was part of the student cabaret “Coś,” which earned accolades at various festivals.
Her extensive theatrical career included performances in prominent Warsaw theaters such as Teatr Współczesny, Teatr Nowy, and Teatr Dramatyczny. In 1984, she presented the acclaimed monodrama “De Profundis.” She received recognition in 2002 when she won the Feliks Warszawski award for her role in “Oczyszczone,” directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski.
Celińska made her film debut in 1970 in Andrzej Wajda’s “Krajobraz po bitwie,” starring alongside Daniel Olbrychski. Throughout her career, she appeared in films by celebrated directors such as Antoni Krauze, Krzysztof Zanussi, and Stanisław Bareja. Her notable roles included Agnieszka in “Nocach i dniach” and Lusi in “Nie ma róży bez ognia.” She later earned an Orzeł award for her performance in the drama “Joanna.”

Alongside her acting career, Celińska was a talented musician. She recorded her first song, “Piegowata dziewczyna,” as a teenager. In 1969, she won the Opole “Debiuty” with the song “Ptakom podobni.” Her powerful voice and unique interpretations won her acclaim at the Actor’s Song Festival.
Some of her memorable performances included “Uśmiechnij się!
