Hayden Panettiere Reveals ‘Shocking’ Encounter with Famous Man on Boat at 18
Hayden Panettiere has opened up about a traumatic experience from her teenage years involving a famous man on a boat. The actress shared this unsettling encounter during an episode of Jay Shetty’s podcast, On Purpose with Jay Shetty. She revealed details from her upcoming memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, set for release on May 19.
Shocking Encounter at 18
While discussing her past, Panettiere recounted a night when she was led onto a boat by someone she trusted. She described feeling mature at 18 but later recognized her vulnerability at that age. “The fact that I was 18… scientifically, your frontal lobes don’t develop until we’re what, 25, 26?” she explained. This comment highlights the naivety she felt despite her previous life experiences.
Feeling of Danger
Pandettiere described the moment she became aware of her surroundings and understood that she was in danger while feeling “quite literally out to sea.” It was a shocking shift from what she initially thought was a fun night out.
“There was no hints of anything like that happening,” she recalled. When escorted to a small room, she found herself next to a very famous man, undressed, and seemingly unfazed by the situation. “She physically put me in the bed next to this undressed man who was very famous,” Panettiere recalled, expressing her disbelief at the betrayal.
Survival Instinct Kicks In
Once she realized the peril she was in, Panettiere’s instinct took over. “That lion in me, that fire in me… my hair stood on end and I became ferocious,” she stated. She immediately fled the room and sought refuge elsewhere on the boat, aware that escape by swimming was not an option.
Betrayal and Its Emotional Impact
Reflecting on the encounter, Panettiere conveyed the deep emotional scars left by the betrayal of someone she viewed as a protector. “When you really find somebody that you trust, you hold on to them for dear life and you feel so lucky,” she said, reiterating the pain of that trust being broken.
Upcoming Memoir
Hayden Panettiere’s memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, promises to delve deeper into her life experiences, including this shocking incident. Fans can find it in stores starting May 19.
