Downtown Traffic Update Released for Major Weekend Events

Cleveland is gearing up for a busy day of events on Saturday, May 9, 2026. Major sports and entertainment activities will attract large crowds to the downtown area. The excitement begins with the Cleveland Cavaliers facing the Detroit Pistons in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals at Rocket Arena, scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
Later in the day, the Cleveland Guardians will compete against the Minnesota Twins at Progressive Field, beginning at 6:10 p.m. The evening will conclude with a concert by country music artist Zach Bryan at Huntington Bank Field, starting at 7:00 p.m. Additionally, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Cleveland Metropolitan School District will host the 27th Annual Rock Your World with STEAM Family Festival at Cleveland Public Auditorium.
Traffic and Road Closures
Due to these significant events, the City of Cleveland has released important traffic information. High traffic volumes are expected, especially in downtown areas. To manage the influx of visitors, the Cleveland Division of Police will deploy additional officers on key routes.
Temporary Road Closures
Several roads will be closed or restricted on Saturday, May 9, including:
- North Marginal Drive: From East Drive to Burke Airport
- East 9th Street: North of Lakeside Avenue
- West 3rd Street: North of Lakeside Avenue
Additionally, the following Route 2 ramps will be closed:
- East 9th Street Eastbound Off-Ramp
- West 3rd Street Westbound Off-Ramp
- West 28th Street Westbound Off-Ramp
Parking Restrictions
Parking restrictions will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and will continue until midnight. Vehicles parked in violation of these restrictions will be ticketed and towed. Towed vehicles can be retrieved from the City’s Impound Unit located at 3040 Quigley Road.
No-parking restrictions will be enforced on the following streets:
- East 9th Street: Euclid Avenue to Bolivar Road
- East 4th Street: From Huron Road to Prospect Avenue
- East 2nd Street: From High Street to Prospect Avenue
- Prospect Avenue: From Ontario Street to East 14th Street
- Bolivar Road: From East 7th Street to Prospect Avenue
- Huron Road: From East 9th Street to Ontario Street
- Sumner Avenue: From East 9th Street to East 14th Street
- Erie Court: From East 9th Street to East 14th Street
- West 3rd Street: From Lakeside Avenue to Huntington Bank Field
- Lakeside Avenue: Various segments
- St. Clair Avenue: From East 9th Street to West 3rd Street
- Carnegie Avenue: From East 9th Street to East 14th Street
Special Event Parking Zones
Special Event Parking Zones will be implemented for the games and concert. On-street parking will cost $8 per hour and will be active two hours before each event. These zones provide a more economical option compared to private parking facilities.
Visitors can pay through ParkMobile or cash at available pay stations. For a smoother experience, attendees are encouraged to plan their parking ahead of time.
Parking Availability
Available parking options include:
- Willard Garage: Opens at 6:00 a.m. Sunday; rate is $40.
- Municipal Lot: Opens at 11:00 a.m. Saturday; rate is $50 per space.
