Sudbury Teen Charged with Racing Near Parry Sound

On May 7, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) apprehended two vehicles for racing on Highway 400, near Parry Sound. The incident occurred around 12:15 p.m. when officers conducted a traffic enforcement operation.

High-Speed Racing Incident

During their enforcement efforts, OPP observed two vehicles traveling southbound at astonishing speeds. Both vehicles were clocked at 172 km/h in a posted speed limit of 110 km/h.

Details of the Charges

Following the traffic stops, a 19-year-old driver from Sudbury faced multiple charges:

  • Driving a motor vehicle—perform stunt due to excessive speed
  • Driving a motor vehicle—perform stunt while racing
  • Failure to surrender an insurance card

A second driver, a 28-year-old from Lynden, was also charged with similar offenses:

  • Driving a motor vehicle—perform stunt due to excessive speed
  • Driving a motor vehicle—perform stunt while racing

Consequences of the Racing Charges

As a result of their actions, both drivers received 30-day suspensions of their driver’s licenses. Additionally, their vehicles were impounded for a period of 14 days.

They were each issued Provincial Offence Summons and are set to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on July 21, 2026.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about reckless driving and racing on public roads. The OPP continues to prioritize traffic safety and urges all drivers to adhere to speed limits.
