Smoke Rises Near Harrow Footbridge; Firefighters Respond Promptly

Early this morning, on Monday, May 11, firefighters swiftly responded to a fire incident near Harrow Footbridge. The fire broke out in bushes and undergrowth adjacent to the footbridge, located near the junction of Pinner Park Avenue.
Details of the Incident
The alarm was raised at approximately 7:30 AM. Firefighters arrived promptly to combat the rising smoke from the overgrown area beneath the bridge.
Possible Cause of the Fire
It is believed the blaze was sparked by a discarded cigarette. Paolo Arrigo, who witnessed the event, recounted his experience at the scene.
- Upon observing smoke, he hesitated but ultimately returned, realizing it was a genuine fire.
- He emphasized, “Though not a major fire, brush fires like this are deep and can be challenging to extinguish.”
Soil Conditions and Fire Safety
Arrigo, a seedsman and horticulturalist, highlighted the dry conditions leading up to the incident. He noted the lack of rain in recent weeks and cautioned against careless behaviors, such as barbecues and littering cigarettes.
