Robert Irwin Survives ‘Death Roll’ by 14-Foot Crocodile Named for Jimmy Fallon

Robert Irwin recently recounted a harrowing experience involving a 14-foot crocodile he previously named Jimmy Fallon. During his appearance on “The Tonight Show,” he described how he was “death rolled” by this massive reptile, which has grown significantly since he named it as a hatchling.
Encounter with Jimmy Fallon the Crocodile
During the talk show, the 22-year-old conservationist detailed the moment he jumped onto the back of the crocodile. He explained that his father devised this method as part of their research on crocodiles to enhance conservation efforts. “After I jumped on him, he death rolled me,” Robert recounted. “I was underneath him with about 700 pounds on top of me.” Thankfully, Jimmy Fallon rolled back, and Robert managed to escape unharmed.
A Family Legacy of Conservation
Robert Irwin is the son of the late Steve Irwin, famously known as “The Crocodile Hunter,” who dedicated his life to wildlife conservation. Steve Irwin passed away in September 2006 from a stingray injury while filming a documentary in the Great Barrier Reef. At just two years old at the time of his father’s death, Robert, along with his mother Teri and sister Bindi, continues the family’s legacy at the Australia Zoo in Queensland.
Continuing Steve Irwin’s Mission
In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Robert expressed his dedication to continuing his father’s work. He emphasized, “To continue this legacy is the honor of my life.” His commitment is not just about wildlife conservation, but also about embodying the values his father stood for.
Achievements in Entertainment
- Both Robert and Bindi Irwin showcased their talents on “Dancing with the Stars.”
- Bindi won Season 21 of the show at 17 years old, taking home the mirrorball trophy in 2015.
- Robert participated in the fall of 2025 and won alongside his partner, Witney Carson.
Reflecting on his journey, Robert stated, “Coming over from Australia, I didn’t know how it would go. The support I received from America has been incredible.” He aims to use his platform not only to promote conservation but also to inspire positivity among younger generations.
