South Western Railway (SWR) has introduced an attractive promotion for train travel in May. The scheme offers 40,000 discounted tickets, allowing passengers to travel at reduced rates from Saturday, May 23, through Sunday, May 31.
Discounted Ticket Prices
Tickets are priced affordably, starting from just £6 for short-distance journeys. The fares are categorized as follows:
- £6 – Short-distance to and from London
- £9 – Mid-distance to and from London
- £12 – Long-distance to and from London
For example, traveling to Portsmouth, Southampton, or Salisbury costs £9, while trips to Bournemouth, Exeter, or Weymouth are priced at £12. Travelers are encouraged to explore smaller towns, as there are more tickets available compared to popular destinations.
Railcard Discounts
Passengers with railcards can enjoy additional savings, receiving a third off the ticket prices. Eligible railcards include:
- 16-25 Railcard
- 26-30 Railcard
- Family & Friends Railcard
- Senior Railcard
- HM Forces Railcard
- Disabled Persons Railcard
- Veterans Railcard
- Two Together Railcard
Booking Information
Tickets will be on sale until May 18 or until they sell out. Interested travelers can visit El-Balad to book tickets and view the fare zones along with the terms and conditions.
Matthew Winnie, South Western Railway’s Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, emphasized the importance of this sale. He stated, “Our first-ever big May Rail Sale is all about helping customers enjoy great value days out and short breaks across the SWR network during the half-term and May bank holiday period.
