In the latest report, Union Station secured the fifth position on the list of the world’s top 20 train stations. Over 65 million passengers utilize this vital transit hub annually, making it a central part of Toronto’s transportation infrastructure.

Opened in 1927, the Beaux Arts-style design of Union Station is an architectural gem of the city. Despite facing potential demolition in the 1970s, the station has undergone extensive renovations and upgrades. Ongoing plans may include wider platforms and a new south concourse to meet increasing passenger demand.

For its ranking, AllClear evaluated 40 train stations worldwide, considering various criteria:

Union Station was the only Canadian station to make the list, trailing behind leading stations in Switzerland and Japan. It excelled in lounge access, earning a perfect score of 15, matching Zurich Hauptbahnhof in Switzerland.

Dining and Retail Highlights

While Union Station scored only eight out of 20 for retail offerings, its dining options received high praise with a score of 19 out of 25. The revitalized food hall features popular eateries including Shake Shack, Loaded Pierogi, and Blondies Pizza.

Overall Score and Recognition

Union Station achieved a commendable total score of 68 out of 100. This ranking highlights its status as one of the most luxurious train hubs globally, reaffirming its significance in Toronto’s transit landscape.
