Inbetweeners Star Greg Davies Teases Third Spin-Off Film Commitment

Greg Davies, renowned for his role as Mr. Gilbert in The Inbetweeners, has hinted at the potential for a third spin-off film. The producers of the beloved teenage sitcom are reportedly finalizing a multimillion-pound deal to create this new movie, more than ten years after the second installment’s successful release in 2014, which grossed $64 million (£47 million).

Greg Davies on the Third Inbetweeners Film

In a recent interview, Davies playfully remarked on the repercussions of not being involved in the upcoming project. He expressed his excitement at the possibility of a third film, stating, “I’d be so excited. If I’m not in it, there’ll be consequences for several individuals.” His character, Mr. Gilbert, has remained a memorable figure among fans, with Davies noting that he is frequently recognized and called by his character’s name.

Cast and Creative Team

Three of the original cast members—Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, and Blake Harrison—are now in their 40s but are expected to return to their roles as young adults. James Buckley is also anticipated to reprise his character. It is believed that the film will be produced for Netflix, following a deal struck by creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley.

  • Film Release Dates:
    • First Film (2011): Grossed $88 million (£65 million)
    • Second Film (2014): Grossed $64 million (£47 million)
  • Notable Characters:
    • Mr. Gilbert – Head of Sixth Form played by Greg Davies

Reflections on Past Roles

Davies’ experience as a former drama teacher has influenced his portrayal of Mr. Gilbert. Interestingly, he revealed that former pupils have provided him with rich material for his comedic performances. However, concerns about the progression of the original characters’ storylines have been raised, particularly by Thomas, who noted that the characters are at very different life stages now.

Despite the changes, fans remain hopeful that the new installment will retain the charm and humor that characterized the series, making it a nostalgic reunion for both the cast and the audience.
