Uzbekistan to Launch Construction of Tashkent International Airport in June

Uzbekistan has announced the start of construction for the new Tashkent International Airport, scheduled to begin in June. This development is part of a significant transport infrastructure initiative aimed at increasing aviation capacity to accommodate rising passenger demand.
Details About the New Tashkent International Airport
The project is being coordinated through a public-private partnership (PPP), with the agreement nearing finalization. Uzbek Deputy Transport Minister Jasurbek Choriev revealed that this contract is expected to be signed by mid-May, leading to the official commencement of construction following governmental approval.
International Collaboration
A diverse international consortium is involved in the project, including partners from:
- Saudi Arabia
- Japan
- South Korea
- Uzbekistan
The construction site occupies a sprawling 1,300 hectares in the Tashkent region. Once completed, the airport is projected to manage up to:
- 20 million passengers annually
- 129,000 tons of cargo each year
- 30 takeoffs and landings per hour
- Simultaneously accommodate 62 aircraft
Timeline and Infrastructure Integration
The anticipated construction period for the airport ranges between three to four years. Upon its completion, the airport will seamlessly integrate with existing transport infrastructure, including:
- Highways
- High-speed rail links
This integration aims to enhance regional connectivity significantly. The existing Tashkent International Airport is slated for decommissioning once the new facility becomes operational, marking a new era in Uzbekistan’s aviation sector.
