Maloney, accompanied by her daughter, Marie-Pierre Pepin, expressed her excitement, mentioning her anticipation of a good deal on a mattress. She shared her sleepless night, worried about being late. Only 50 customers were allowed inside at a time, adding to the urgency.
Just a few spots behind them, Christian Dion held a coffee and reflected on his unusual decision to attend a store opening. He lamented the effects of inflation, stating, “With prices so high, we have little choice.” He is committed to DIY projects like canning and making jams at home.

Linda Robidoux joined the line to buy spiral frozen fries for her son. Once the doors opened at 9:00 AM, the store was well-prepared, with Ducas promising a busy scene in just a matter of hours. To ensure customer safety and order, Granby police would monitor the crowds in the coming days.

Since its founding in 2024, Liquidation Marie has significantly expanded, benefiting from the current inflationary environment. The store specializes in selling food items at prices up to 50% lower than those found in traditional supermarkets. Granby represents the company’s 12th location, reflecting a strategic refinement of its retail concept.
Marieve Breton, the founder of Liquidation Marie, shared insights into their evolving business model. “We aim for store sizes of over 10,000 square feet,” she mentioned. This is a notable increase from the original target of 5,000 square feet, indicating growing demand. The foot traffic has tripled in recent years, showcasing the brand’s successful adaptation to market conditions.
