Northeast Aviation Soars: Salvador Handles Over 1.1 Million Passengers
Northeast aviation has experienced significant growth in the first quarter of 2026, with Salvador standing out for its passenger traffic. The National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Ports and Airports, reported that the region handled 5.8 million passengers on domestic and international flights. This marks a 12.86% increase compared to the same period in 2025, surpassing the national average growth of 8.95%.
Northeast Aviation Growth and Salvador’s Performance
The growth in passenger numbers is attributed to the booming tourism during the summer peak season, as well as to the increase in air connectivity in the area. Key events such as the Carnival and various cultural festivals have also contributed to this surge.
Salvador’s Airport Achievements
Among leading airports in the Northeast, the Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães International Airport in Salvador played a crucial role. The airport recorded 1.13 million passengers in the same quarter, reflecting an impressive increase of 11.69% from the previous year. This performance solidifies Salvador’s status as one of the region’s primary air hubs, trailing only behind Recife.
Other Major Airports and Tourist Destinations
- Recife: Led passenger traffic in the region.
- Fortaleza: Followed closely behind Recife in terms of passenger numbers.
- Other notable destinations: Porto Seguro, Maceió, and João Pessoa saw significant increases, showcasing the strength of regional tourism.
The advancements in the aviation sector are attributed to the greater availability of flights, enhancements in airport infrastructure, and rising demand for Northeast destinations, especially during peak summer months. The Ministry of Ports and Airports indicates that this trend signals ongoing expansion in regional aviation, which will have direct positive impacts on tourism and the local economy.
