Gap is launching a new collaboration with designer Sandy Liang, known for her distinctive fusion of feminine nostalgia and urban edginess. This womenswear and kids’ apparel collection will debut on Friday, showcasing Liang’s unique flair through a thoughtful reimagination of Gap’s iconic styles.

Liang, a graduate from Parsons School of Design, founded her brand in 2014. Her artistic vision attracts a dedicated following, blending personal nostalgia with modern aesthetics. Mark Breitbard, CEO of Gap, emphasized the synergy between their creative perspectives. “Sandy Liang has cultivated both an engaged community and an iconic design perspective,” he remarked, highlighting how the collaboration reinterprets Gap’s legacy pieces.

Creative Inspirations

Liang’s motivations stem from her childhood experiences with Gap, which she describes as the epitome of fashion. The partnership aims to evoke memories while providing contemporary functionality. The collection is supported by an imaginative short film titled “Sandy’s Dream Closet,” animated by the esteemed artist Annie Choi. This film, set on New York’s Lower East Side, illustrates Liang’s vision of self-expression and creative possibilities.

“This collaboration allows us to bring the world of Sandy Liang to life for a broad audience,” Liang explained. The campaign, directed by Sophie Hur, will be displayed on digital platforms and Gap stores featuring the collection.

The collection centers on denim, which serves as an anchor for the pieces. Key items include:

  • Low-rise ’90s loose carpenter jeans – $108

Additionally, online-exclusive items for babies and toddlers draw inspiration from adult styles, reinforcing the generational appeal of the collection. Liang’s son, Rainer, features in the campaign, further connecting with family themes.

The Gap x Sandy Liang collection will launch at 9 a.m. ET on Friday, available at gap.com and selected stores, including locations in:

  • 2 Folsom, San Francisco
  • Flatiron and Times Square, New York
  • Tyson’s Corner, Fairfax County, VA
  • Liang’s flagship store in New York City

Internationally, the collection will be accessible in markets such as the Middle East, U.K., Turkey, and Japan. Prices for the collection range from $15 to $268, marking it as an exciting blend of accessible and high-end design.

Notably, this collaboration with Gap represents Liang’s first foray into kids’ apparel, building on her previous partnerships with brands like Beats, Salomon, and Baggu. The creative partnership promises to resonate with a diverse audience, merging classic styles with fresh perspectives.
