Recent statistics reveal that three areas in Devon rank among the most hazardous locations in the South West due to crime rates. Devon’s Crime Hotspots: Areas with the Highest Rates

Despite the overall decrease, some specific crime categories have seen increases. Notably, there has been a 5% rise in sexual offences, a 6% increase in weapons possession, and an 18% spike in drug offences.

Exeter: The Most Dangerous City in Devon

The city of Exeter tops the list as Devon’s most crime-ridden location. In the past year, police recorded 13,279 non-fraud crimes in the city. This translates into a notable crime rate of 96 offences per 1,000 residents, making it the highest within the Devon and Cornwall police jurisdiction. Moreover, Exeter ranks as the third most dangerous area in the South West, following Bristol and Gloucester.

Other High-Crime Areas in Devon

  • Torbay: This area was ranked as the fourth most hazardous in the South West, with a crime rate of 93 offences per 1,000 residents. Although there was a 5% reduction in crime since 2024, the statistics remain concerning.
  • Plymouth: With a crime rate of 92 offences per 1,000 residents, Plymouth holds the position of the fifth most dangerous city in the region. It experienced a 4% decline in crime rates.

Areas of Relative Safety

Conversely, East and Mid Devon stand out as the safest places in the region. With a crime rate of only 45 crimes per 1,000 residents, they rank as the fourth safest in the South West.

The disparity in crime rates across Devon highlights the varying levels of safety. These statistics can help residents understand the risks in their neighborhoods and make informed decisions.
