Winnipeg firefighters faced a challenging 24-hour period, battling seven fires across the city. The incidents occurred from Friday evening through Saturday evening, with fires ranging from residential buildings to grassland areas.
Key Incidents Reported
- On Friday at around 5 p.m., emergency crews responded to two significant fires.
- A house fire on Dearborn Avenue produced heavy smoke and flames, declared under control by 5:45 p.m.
- A grass fire near Paul Boulevard, measuring approximately 1,000 square metres, was controlled shortly after 5:30 p.m.
- By Saturday morning, a vacant house fire on Lock Street was under control by 3:10 a.m.
- Later Saturday morning, a duplex fire on Pritchard Avenue was managed by 10 a.m.
- In the afternoon, a house fire on Garfield Street North was declared under control at 2:18 p.m.
- The final incident involved a high-rise building fire on Young Street, contained by 5:19 p.m. on Saturday.
Firefighter Response and Community Safety
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service deployed specialized equipment for wildland firefighting during the grass fire response. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in any of the fires, but all remain under investigation.
