Rainy Season Arrives: Wu Derong Warns of Severe Weather Ahead

The rainy season is upon us, prompting warnings from meteorologist Wu Derong about severe weather conditions ahead. According to Wu, the first wave of the Mei Yu season, occurring in May and June, is expected to create localized thunderstorms and downpours across northern and central Taiwan.

Weather Forecast: What to Expect

Today, regions from central Taiwan northward may experience showers and thunderstorms. By tomorrow, southern areas will also have a chance of brief rain. Residents are advised to be cautious of lightning, strong winds, and sudden heavy rainfall.

Temperature Insights

Through today, temperatures are dropping, particularly in northern regions:

  • North Taiwan: 17 to 25 degrees Celsius
  • Central Taiwan: 20 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • South Taiwan: 22 to 33 degrees Celsius
  • East Taiwan: 18 to 31 degrees Celsius

Wu Derong further explained that from Wednesday morning until Thursday (June 7), the weather is expected to improve as the front weakens and moves away. However, there will still be a possibility of brief afternoon showers in mountainous regions and the eastern part of the country.

Upcoming Weather Changes

On Friday (June 8), the weather will be mostly sunny and warm across the country. However, from Friday night to Saturday (June 9), the second wave of the Mei Yu season will bring more localized rain and thunderstorms to northern and southern mountainous areas, leading to a drop in temperatures.

Long-Term Forecast

According to the latest European forecasting model (ECMWF), from Sunday to Wednesday (June 10 to 13), the weather is predicted to improve again as the front weakens and moves farther away. Temperatures will rise, but variations between different forecasting models indicate continued adjustments. Observers are encouraged to stay alert for updates.
