His dismissal followed an NHL investigation concerning the team’s failure to communicate a no-trade list during the 2021 trade of forward Evgenii Dadonov to the Vegas Golden Knights.
Canucks’ Search for a New GM
In an update, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that the Canucks’ search includes several candidates. Aside from Dorion, they have also engaged with:
- Ryan Bowness from the New York Islanders
- Evan Gold from the Boston Bruins
- Additional unnamed candidates
As the Canucks explore these options, Friedman noted that there is no immediate timeline for hiring a new GM. The team recently parted ways with Patrik Allvin following a disappointing season, where they finished last in the NHL standings with a record of 25-49-8.

Canucks president Jim Rutherford stated that the next GM will play a crucial role as the future head of hockey operations. Vancouver is struggling, having not reached the postseason for nine of the last eleven years. Their situation is further complicated by the upcoming NHL Draft lottery, in which the Canucks hold the best odds to secure the first overall pick.
