DPD Drivers Protest Over Payment Dispute

In late September, DPD drivers began organizing protests in response to recent payment changes that they claim significantly affect their earnings. These actions involve around 1,300 to 1,500 drivers participating in various chat groups to coordinate their efforts.
Payment Dispute Details
The dispute centers on DPD’s adjustment of driver payments, which they state reflects changes in their parcel traffic profile. Drivers who deliver smaller parcels will experience a reduction of £0.65 per stop. Conversely, deliveries that include larger or high-value items will not see any payment changes, while those handling heavier deliveries will receive an additional £0.65.
Driver Concerns
Many drivers express concerns regarding their income due to these adjustments. One driver indicated that he could lose approximately £25 daily, equating to around £6,500 annually. This reduction poses challenges for managing household expenses.
Another driver highlighted that even with the potential for increased payments on larger parcels, it is unlikely they could compensate for the loss from the reduced payments on smaller deliveries. He noted, “We just don’t get that many larger parcels to make up for the loss resulting from the rate cut in smaller parcels.”
Protest Schedule
The protesting drivers plan to refuse delivery duties on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week. While DPD acknowledges the grievances raised by some drivers, the company maintains that it does not anticipate any major disruptions to their service during this action.
DPD’s Response to the Situation
- DPD has introduced new incentive payments aimed at increasing year-round earnings.
- The company asserts that their remuneration package remains competitive within the industry.
- DPD stated they are addressing driver concerns regarding the new payment arrangements.
The company indicated that only a small number of drivers at various depots chose not to participate in operations, suggesting minimal impact on service levels. However, the ongoing dispute highlights the importance of addressing driver welfare in the face of changing operational dynamics.
