New Chery SUVs Set to Enter UK Market as Chinese Brands Expand

Chery, a major player in the automotive industry, is preparing to launch its new SUVs in the UK as part of an ambitious expansion into European markets. Over the next few years, the company plans to introduce up to seven distinct brands.
Chery’s UK Expansion Strategy
The introduction of Chery’s brands comes after the success of Omoda and Jaecoo. Both have quickly established a presence, with Jaecoo 7 emerging as the top-selling new car in the UK market as of March 2023.
New Models and Brands
- The family-oriented Chery brand is set to debut in 2025.
- Design-focused Lepas will open its showrooms later this year.
- Chery’s commercial vehicles, under the Delivan brand, are slated to launch next year.
The new Freelander brand will also feature prominently. Announced at the Chery International Business Summit in Wuhu, China, the Freelander 8 is a sizeable SUV measuring 5.2 meters. This model will be the first in a series of six SUVs aimed at providing a premium all-terrain experience.
Future Models and Features
Although the release details for the Freelander 8 in the UK are tentative, it is confirmed to be designed for right-hand drive and European specifications. Retailers are in discussions with Chery about bringing this new model to UK markets.
Another brand, called iCaur, is expected to make a similar debut within the next year. The iCaur lineup includes two models, the V23 and V27, which were unveiled at the business summit. Both vehicles are designed to cater to various lifestyles, as evidenced by additional accessories such as compact charging systems and dog carriers.
- The V27 features a range-extender system combining a 33kWh battery and an internal combustion engine for charging.
- In electric-only mode, the V27 boasts a range exceeding 100 miles, while delivering nearly 600 miles when using the range-extender.
- The V23, a fully electric vehicle, claims a range of approximately 300 miles.
iCaur, which is referred to as iCar in China, had to modify its branding internationally due to trademark issues with Apple. This brand is already selling vehicles in right-hand-drive configurations in Malaysia, signaling a growing global presence.
Conclusion
Chery’s entry into the UK market marks a significant step for Chinese automotive manufacturers. With an increasing number of models and innovative technologies, Chery aims to compete directly with established automotive giants. As the launch dates approach, consumers can expect a variety of options tailored to evolving preferences and environmental standards.
