Power Outage Shuts Down Osborne Village Businesses on Monday

A significant power outage disrupted businesses and residents in Winnipeg’s Osborne Village area on Monday, affecting approximately 1,000 customers of Manitoba Hydro. The outage began shortly after 10:30 a.m., leading to the temporary closure of major retailers, including Safeway and Shoppers Drug Mart.
Details of the Power Outage
The outage was linked to a malfunction in a distribution centre, a critical piece of equipment for electrical supply distribution. Peter Chura, a media relations officer for Manitoba Hydro, provided insights during a discussion on CBC Radio’s Up to Speed. He stated that the cause of the equipment failure is currently unknown.
Restoration Efforts
Chura highlighted the challenges faced in restoring power. Crews started working on replacing the faulty equipment and are required to inspect an additional 60 locations. “We want to get this done as quickly as possible, but safety is our priority,” he mentioned. The restoration process took several hours, and Manitoba Hydro acknowledged the inconvenience caused to customers.
Power Restoration Update
By 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Manitoba Hydro announced via social media that power had been fully restored to the affected area. Customers who are still without power were encouraged to contact Hydro for further assistance.
