Whitby Bridge Closed for Four Days Amid Goth Festival Return

The highly anticipated Whitby Goth Weekend is set to take place this bank holiday weekend, attracting festival-goers from across the region. As part of the preparations for this popular event, the Whitby Swing Bridge will be closed to all traffic, excluding buses, starting Friday morning and reopening Tuesday morning.
Bridge Closure Schedule
According to a spokesperson from North Yorkshire Council, the bridge closure will commence at 12:00 AM on Friday and conclude at 6:00 AM on Tuesday. This measure aims to enhance pedestrian safety during peak times, coinciding with the influx of visitors attending the festival. Additional barriers will be put in place to manage foot traffic effectively.

The Whitby Swing Bridge will also have several scheduled closures throughout the year to accommodate various events and maintenance activities. Below is a list of upcoming closures:

- July 25 to July 26: 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM – School summer holidays
- August 1 to August 2: 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM – School summer holidays
