Quillan Salkilld Poised as Australia’s Next UFC Star

Quillan Salkilld, a rising star in mixed martial arts (MMA), is quickly making a name for himself in Australia’s UFC scene. At just 26 years old, he hails from Broome, a small town in Western Australia. His journey from an aspiring rugby player to a formidable fighter highlights his determination and skill.

From Broome to UFC Stardom

Located about 2,223 kilometers from Perth, Broome is known for its beauty and isolation. The town is famous for South Sea pearls, which can be valued at over A$150,000 (US$107,700). However, Salkilld, with his recent successes, could soon become the town’s most notable export.

In just 18 months, Salkilld transitioned from “Dana White’s Contender Series” to a co-main event in Perth. He has impressively knocked out several opponents, earning recognition for his talent and determination.

A New Path in MMA

After leaving school at 16, Salkilld initially pursued Australian rules football. However, a visit to UFC 221 ignited his passion for mixed martial arts. He quickly dedicated himself to training and has not looked back. “As soon as I started, I lost total interest in playing footy,” he said.

Salkilld’s training and hard work paid off with a stunning knockout victory against Nasrat Haqparast at UFC 321. This fight earned him a $50,000 performance bonus and a surge in recognition, further solidifying his status in the UFC.

Upcoming Challenges

Salkilld’s next match is against Beneil Dariush, a seasoned UFC veteran with 24 fights under his belt. He acknowledges the significant challenge this presents but is excited about the opportunity. “It’s a cool step up for me to fight this guy,” Salkilld noted.

As he prepares for the matchup, he is focused on improving his skills. He aims to take Dariush’s place in the rankings and continue climbing the competitive ladder of the lightweight division.

UFC Fight Night: A Historic Event in Perth
