Rhinos Unveil 2026 MND Awareness Shirt

Leeds Rhinos have unveiled their 2026 Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Awareness shirt, which features a distinctive blue cornflower design. This flower symbolizes the fragility and resilience of those affected by MND. The shirt’s design is inspired by 2024’s shirt created by Cath Muir, who lives with MND.

Supporting the MND Community

The 2026 shirt aims to provide support for the entire MND community, broadening its focus beyond Rob Burrow, a beloved figure in the sport. Since 2020, the Rhinos have raised over £250,000 through their annual MND Awareness shirts for various MND initiatives. From each sale of the 2026 shirt, £10 will contribute to the ongoing Leeds Hospitals Charity appeal, specifically for the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease.

The Rob Burrow Centre and Its Impact

The Rob Burrow Centre, which opened in November 2025, was established following a £6.8 million fundraising initiative. This project has received generous support from thousands of donors across Yorkshire and the UK. The charity continues to aid the Centre by funding specialist staff, advanced equipment, and resources essential for families.

Global MND Awareness Day

The Leeds Rhinos will wear the MND Awareness shirt during their match against Hull KR on June 26, 2026. This date falls within the week of Global MND Awareness Day, observed annually on June 21. This day aims to raise awareness, honor those impacted by MND, and support efforts towards finding a cure.

Community Statements on the Initiative

Esther Wakeman, CEO of Leeds Hospitals Charity, praised the ongoing support from Leeds Rhinos, highlighting the importance of community contributions for the Centre’s success. Jamie Jones-Buchanan, Chief Executive of Leeds Rhinos and a close friend of Rob Burrow, emphasized the need to continue supporting those diagnosed with MND. He remarked on the importance of the Rhinos’ legacy in aiding the MND community.
