Hawaii Health Center Broadens Reach to Kauai Island

The Hawaii Health and Harm Reduction Center (H3RC) is making strides to enhance healthcare access on Kauai Island. This expansion marks a significant development for the local community, particularly those needing support for HIV and sexual health.
Upcoming Events for H3RC on Kauai
H3RC will celebrate this expansion with a soft launch on Friday, May 1. Following this, a grand opening event is scheduled for June 5, from 2 to 5 p.m. at their new office located at 4370 Kukui Grove St., Suite 114, in Lihue. The community is encouraged to participate, and RSVPs are available through their platform.
Legacy and Commitment
The new center steps in after the closure of Malama Pono Health Services, which provided over 40 years of essential HIV and sexual health services on Kauai. H3RC acknowledges the legacy of Malama Pono, which had been a crucial provider of care and advocacy.
Heather Lusk, Executive Director of H3RC, stated, “We are honored to continue that legacy and remain committed to ensuring that people on Kauai have access to the care and support they need without interruption.”
Services Offered by H3RC
H3RC plans to deliver a range of important services on Kauai, with intentions to expand them further. The services include:
- Medical case management for individuals living with HIV
- Gender-affirming care and peer support, including telehealth options
- HIV, STI, and hepatitis C testing, with connections to further care
- Care coordination and referrals to various health and social services
This initiative aims to ensure that residents of Kauai can access necessary health services effectively and seamlessly. The expansion of H3RC signifies a positive step towards comprehensive healthcare on the island.
