Wild’s Brodin Sidelined for Game 6 Against Stars in Western First Round
The Minnesota Wild will face a significant challenge in Game 6 of their first-round matchup against the Dallas Stars, as defenseman Jonas Brodin has been sidelined due to injury. This announcement comes amid tensions in this tightly contested playoff series.
Brodin’s Impact and Replacement
Jonas Brodin has contributed one assist and is averaging 19:41 of ice time per game during the playoffs. His absence will shift the team’s defensive strategy significantly. Wild head coach John Hynes commented on Brodin’s status, noting, “It’s really for today… I would classify him as day to day.”
In Brodin’s stead, Jeff Petry steps into the lineup after being a healthy scratch for the first five games of the series. Petry, who came from the Florida Panthers on March 5, brings experience, having played in nine regular-season games with Minnesota. Throughout his NHL postseason career, he has recorded 13 points in 48 games, although this marks his first playoff appearance since July 7, 2021.
Petry’s Role and Expectations
- Petry will join Zach Bogosian on Minnesota’s third defensive pair.
- Jake Middleton will take Brodin’s position alongside Jared Spurgeon on the second pair.
Petry expressed his eagerness for the opportunity. “It’s an opportunity for me to step in and make an impact,” he stated. He emphasized his commitment to a strong defensive game as he prepares for this crucial playoff moment.
Roster Changes
In addition to Brodin’s injury, the Wild welcome back forward Nico Sturm. He replaces Bobby Brink, who contributed one assist in his four games played this series but struggled to make a significant impact. Sturm will center Minnesota’s fourth line, flanked by teammates Nick Foligno and Marcus Foligno. He previously participated in Games 3 and 4 but was a healthy scratch in Game 5.
Hynes has acknowledged Sturm’s contributions during his previous appearances, indicating that he liked Sturm’s performance despite limited ice time. Sturm played a total of 20:20 in his earlier games and recorded an assist.
The Minnesota Wild will need to adjust quickly as they prepare to face the Dallas Stars. The team’s resilience and depth will be put to the test in this pivotal Game 6.
