The French tax season for 2026 is on the horizon. Significant dates and processes have been announced by the government. Taxpayers should be aware of these deadlines to ensure compliance.

Tax Deadlines 2026: Key Dates for Filing Your Income Declaration by Region

The online income declaration service will be available starting April 9, 2026. Different regions have distinct deadlines for filing tax returns, which taxpayers must adhere to.

Filing Deadlines by Region

  • Zone 1: Taxpayers in departments 01 to 19 and non-residents must file by May 21, 2026, at 11:59 PM.
  • Zone 2: Those in departments 20 to 54 have until May 28, 2026, at 11:59 PM to submit their returns.
  • Zone 3: Residents of departments 55 to 974 and 976 should complete their declarations by June 4, 2026, at 11:59 PM.

Filing by Paper

Taxpayers who still file income declarations on paper have a deadline of May 19, 2026, at 11:59 PM, including those living abroad. Paper submissions will be accepted from March 27 to April 17, 2026, specifically for those who filed a paper return in 2025.

Receiving Tax Notices

After submitting the declaration, tax notices will be available between July 24 and July 31, 2026, depending on individual circumstances. For online filings, notices for any refunds or outstanding payments will be issued during this time.

For paper tax notices, if a refund is due or no payment is necessary, notices will be sent out between July 23 and August 28, 2026. If payment is required, the timeframe is from July 23 to August 20, 2026.

Payment of Taxes

Tax payments will be directly deducted from the taxpayer’s bank account, as notified to the tax authority. For amounts up to €300, a single withdrawal will occur on September 25, 2026. For amounts exceeding €300, monthly withdrawals will be made from September 25 to December 28, 2026.

Staying informed of these key deadlines is crucial for all taxpayers in France. Compliance will aid in avoiding penalties and ensuring timely processing of returns.
