Bucs’ GM Jason Licht Unveils Draft Grade for Rueben Bain Jr.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ general manager, Jason Licht, expressed optimism about the team’s 2026 NFL Draft, highlighting their impressive selection of players. Among these, outside linebacker Rueben Bain Jr. stands out, as Licht graded him as a top-five overall talent. His remarks came during a recent interview on 95.7 WDAE’s “The Drive w/Tras.”
Bucs’ Confidence in Rueben Bain Jr.
Licht emphasized the team’s high regard for Bain, a rookie pass rusher from Miami. He noted that Bain was ranked highly on the team’s draft board, significantly influencing their decisions during the draft.
“Rueben is a top-notch kid that is all about football,” Licht stated. Despite concerns regarding his arm length—measuring 30 7/8 inches, among the shortest for edge rushers since 1999—the Buccaneers see him as a unique talent capable of excelling regardless.
Draft Process and Strategy
The draft preparation involved extensive travel and thorough evaluations, ensuring the team met its needs while focusing on significant talents. Licht acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the draft, explaining how they were pleasantly surprised to select Bain.
“We are very happy with where everything fell throughout the entire draft,” Licht shared. He also highlighted the importance of meetings with scouts and coaches, including head coach Todd Bowles, during the draft preparation.
Complementing Picks Enhance Roster
Following Bain, the Buccaneers selected Missouri inside linebacker Josiah Trotter with their second-round pick. Licht praised Trotter’s dedication and instinct, comparing him to his father, a notable player himself.

In the third round, they chose Georgia State wide receiver Ted Hurst, who Licht described as athletic, with admirable ball skills and speed. Lastly, defensive back Keionte Scott was drafted in the fourth round, recognized for his aggressive play and intangibles.
Final Thoughts on the Draft Class
The draft culminated with selections from various prestigious programs, including Clemson and Notre Dame. Overall, Licht noted that all seven picks were highly rated on their draft board.
If Licht’s assessment is accurate, this class could define the Buccaneers’ future and provide a strong foundation heading into rookie mini-camp next month.
