- At the time, Bayern, led by sporting director Michael Reschke, showed serious interest in Dembélé.
- Dortmund had a favorable position due to their Puma kit deal, linked to Dembélé’s then-club owners.
- Bayern, associated with Adidas, did not have the same appeal to Dembélé.
Rummenigge noted Dembélé’s talent but emphasized the player’s need for mentorship, which might have influenced his choices.
The Doué Attempt
Years later, in 2024, Bayern sought to add another Rennes star, Désiré Doué, to their roster. Unfortunately for Bayern, PSG won this competition as well. Rummenigge remarked:
