Rain Returns to Southern Quebec After Sunshine

After a brief period of warm and sunny weather, southern Quebec is bracing for a return of rain and cooler temperatures. The shift is expected to occur late Tuesday as a weather system from Colorado moves into the region.
Weather Changes in Southern Quebec
The arrival of rain is anticipated Tuesday evening, followed by a dip in temperatures on Wednesday night. A colder weather system moving in from Texas will create more unstable weather patterns and could linger over Quebec for several days.
Precipitation Forecast
According to meteorologist Giselle Dookhie from Environment Canada, the high-pressure system responsible for the recent warm days will gradually shift eastward. This change will lead to significant precipitation across multiple regions.
- 20 to 40 mm of rain expected in the Outaouais and Laurentides regions from Wednesday night to Thursday.
- Similar amounts forecasted between Wednesday and Saturday for Estrie, Chaudière-Appalaches, and Montérégie.
- Between 40 to 70 mm of rain predicted in Lanaudière, Mauricie, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, and Capitale-Nationale.
- Charlevoix could see the heaviest rainfall, with estimates ranging from 50 to 100 mm.
These rainfalls may cause some rivers to rise, prompting alerts from Environment Canada. The temperatures across southern Quebec are set to fall further, with Montreal expecting morning lows between 0 to 6 °C on Friday. Colder conditions could prevail in northern areas.
Uncertain Future Forecast
While forecasters hope the cooler and wetter conditions will subside by Sunday, current predictions remain uncertain. The ongoing influence of the high-pressure system over the Atlantic complicates weather modeling efforts.
Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest forecasts as the week progresses. El-Balad will continue to monitor weather changes impacting southern Quebec.
