Family Funeral Directors Expands with Two New Branch Acquisitions

In a significant expansion, A.W. Lymn The Family Funeral Service has acquired two funeral homes in North Nottinghamshire. This move involves the well-established G.D. Hall Funeral Directors, which has branches in Tuxford and Retford. This acquisition marks the fourth such move for the family-owned funeral directors in just three years.

Strategic Expansion in the East Midlands

A.W. Lymn, a fifth-generation family firm founded over 119 years ago, is on a mission to enhance its footprint across the East Midlands. Recent acquisitions include M.A. Mills in Radcliffe-on-Trent in 2023, demonstrating the company’s strategic growth plan.

Leadership Comments on the Acquisition

Matthew Lymn Rose, the managing director, expressed enthusiasm about taking G.D. Hall’s branches forward. He acknowledged the integrity and compassion demonstrated by the previous owners, Graham and Diane Hall, since opening in 2009. “The meeting of minds was essential in this acquisition,” he stated. He emphasized that their shared values with the Halls were crucial for a successful transition.

The continuing evolution of the funeral industry presents challenges, including lower regulation compared to other sectors. Matthew stressed the importance of offering reliable services to combat misleading advice that could harm grieving families.

Commitment to Community Care

With a growing team of over 150 experienced funeral directors, A.W. Lymn aims to provide exceptional support during difficult times. The expansion into North Nottinghamshire will allow for more families to access trusted funeral advice and services.

Details on G.D. Hall’s Operations

  • G.D. Hall conducts approximately 100 funerals each year.
  • The business includes a fleet of Mercedes E-Class vehicles and two estate cars.
  • It employs a team of casual bearers.

Graham Hall, the founder of G.D. Hall, shared his satisfaction in handing over the business to the A.W. Lymn family. He noted that choosing a family-run firm was essential for ensuring the legacy of his own business. The connection he felt with Matthew during their initial meeting reinforced his confidence in the transition.

Future Plans for Rebranding

A.W. Lymn plans to rebrand the G.D. Hall branches throughout 2026. There is also a new branch set to open in Worksop, which will become part of a new sub-area for Mansfield.

This acquisition not only strengthens A.W. Lymn’s presence in North Nottinghamshire but also reinforces its commitment to quality funeral care and community support.
