Bell Centre Prepares for Canadiens’ Game 4 with Fence Removal

The Bell Centre is making adjustments as it prepares for the Montreal Canadiens’ Game 4 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Recently, the high fences around the outdoor watch party area on Canadiens-de-Montréal Ave. were taken down to enhance safety. Montreal police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant explained that these fences posed potential dangers during emergencies, specifically hindering evacuations from the arena that seats 21,000 fans.
Reason for Fence Removal
The decision to remove the fences stemmed from discussions between police and representatives from the Bell Centre. Brabant indicated that a different type of barrier, likely lower, may be implemented in the future. However, the Canadiens organization, represented by spokesperson Charles Saindon-Courtois, has refrained from making public comments on this decision.
Game 4 and Ticketing Dynamics
The Canadiens will face off against the Lightning in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup playoffs after winning Game 3 in an overtime thriller. Fans can access the outdoor watch parties only by securing free tickets through Ticketmaster, contrasting with last year’s playoffs, where tickets were not mandatory.
- Date of Game 4: Sunday evening
- Game 3 Result: Canadiens 3, Lightning 2 (OT)
- Arena Capacity: 21,000 seats
Frustration has arisen among fans due to resellers capitalizing on the ticketing system. Speculation is growing regarding whether the Canadiens might eliminate the ticket requirement for Sunday’s party, as no fencing now delineates areas for ticketholders.
Enhanced Police Presence
As is customary, the police presence around the Bell Centre has ramped up for playoff games. Authorities are taking extra measures, deploying vehicles, bicycles, and cavalry units for crowd control. Visible police presence is commonplace on game days, with heightened visibility expected on the game day.
Future Watch Party Locations
Following Sunday’s game, it is anticipated that the watch parties will relocate. Place du Canada, situated northeast of the current venue, is likely to become the new location. This urban park, adjacent to Dorchester Square, is seen as a more logistically favorable option for future events.
As the Canadiens gear up for another playoff game, fans eagerly await developments regarding ticketing and watch party preparations. For the latest updates, stay tuned to El-Balad.
