Alex Yee, an Olympic gold medalist, will compete in the London Marathon this Sunday. This marks his second consecutive participation in this prestigious race.

Yee’s Training Regimen and Diet

Ahead of the event, Yee has shared insights into his training and nutritional strategies crucial for marathon success. While supplements play a role, he emphasizes the importance of simple, wholesome foods, particularly bananas, which are affordable at just 16p each.

Beyond their practicality for athletes, bananas offer health benefits. Research indicates that potassium-rich foods, such as bananas, can help lower blood pressure more effectively than simply reducing sodium intake. This insight comes from studies conducted by the University of Waterloo.

Doctoral candidate Melissa Stadt explains that early human diets were high in potassium and low in sodium, influencing our body’s nutritional adaptations. In contrast, contemporary Western diets often lead to higher blood pressure due to elevated sodium levels.

Previous Marathon Performance and Future Plans

Yee made an impressive debut in marathon running in London in 2025. Last year, he recorded his personal best in Valencia, substantially improving his time with the help of fellow athlete Emile Cairess. Although Cairess had to withdraw due to injury this year, Yee will participate as a pacemaker.
