Jeremy Renner Teams with Reno’s AI 911 System

Actor Jeremy Renner has joined forces with RapidSOS, a New York-based company specializing in public safety AI technology. This collaboration aims to enhance the 911 response system, which is currently utilized by the city of Reno and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Background of the Partnership

Renner’s investment comes in the wake of a near-fatal accident he experienced on January 1, 2023. He was seriously injured when a snowplow ran over him near his home south of Reno after a winter storm. This incident left him with numerous broken bones and facial injuries, leading him to realize the critical importance of emergency services.

“There’s 150 people that are responsible for me not dying,” Renner stated, referring to the first responders and medical team that saved his life, as reported by Fortune magazine.

RapidSOS and Its Technology

Founded in 2012, RapidSOS provides innovative AI solutions that deliver real-time data during emergencies. Their technology gives emergency agencies accurate location and medical data derived from smartphones, vehicles, and other connected devices. Notably, the city of Reno employs this technology to manage non-emergency calls effectively.

Documentary Featuring Jeremy Renner

To underscore the significance of emergency communications, RapidSOS has collaborated with Renner to produce a documentary-style short film. This film, shot in Reno, will focus on Renner’s accident and his recovery journey. It will premiere for Northern Nevada first responders, followed by a panel discussion involving emergency personnel and local officials.

  • Date of Film Premiere: April 29
  • Screening Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Renner expressed his concerns regarding artificial intelligence, especially due to previous fraudulent uses of his likeness. However, he appreciates AI’s potential when used for life-saving initiatives. In the trailer for the documentary, he questioned, “Who is going to help our helpers?”

Registration for Live Screening

A live virtual screening of the film, titled “Behind the Emergency,” will be accessible online. Individuals interested in participating can find registration information at the RapidSOS website.
