Diallo Withdraws in Madrid Second Round Due to Injury

Gabriel Diallo, the Québécois tennis player, withdrew from his second-round match at the Madrid Open on Friday due to an injury. After losing the first set 7-5, Diallo faced Elmer Moller with the score tied at 3-3 in the second set. During the match, he called for medical assistance after trailing 2-1 in the second set. Treatment was administered for an issue in his lower back, potentially affecting his hip.
Though Diallo returned briefly to continue the match, he ultimately approached Moller, currently ranked 169th in the ATP standings, to inform him of his inability to proceed.
Other Participants in the Tournament
Two other prominent Québécois players, Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov, are participating in the men’s draw but did not compete on Friday. Auger-Aliassime is set to face Vilius Gaubas, currently ranked 124th in the world, in his second-round match.
Shapovalov is matched against Nicolai Budkov Kjaer, who holds the 140th position in the ATP rankings.
