Zuccarello and Trenin Missing in Wild’s Game 3 of West First Round

The Minnesota Wild face significant challenges due to player injuries in their ongoing playoff series against the Dallas Stars. Currently, the best-of-seven series is tied at one game each.
Zuccarello and Trenin Injuries Impact Wild’s Gameplay
Star forward Mats Zuccarello and key player Yakov Trenin are both absent from the lineup for the Wild’s Game 3 of the Western Conference First Round.
Zuccarello’s Injury Details
Zuccarello sustained his injury during the first period of Game 1, following a hit from Dallas defenseman Tyler Myers. Despite this, he played through the game, contributing with three assists in 16:41 of ice time. However, he felt unwell after skating prior to Game 2 and missed that match.
In his absence, teammate Bobby Brink stepped into Zuccarello’s role and performed admirably, registering five hits in just over 12 minutes of play. Previously, Zuccarello had been pivotal in Game 1, assisting on both of Minnesota’s power-play goals. The Wild struggled without him in Game 2, going 0-for-4 on the power play.
- Zuccarello’s regular-season stats: 54 points (15 goals, 39 assists) in 59 games.
- Playoff performance: 61 points (19 goals, 42 assists) in 103 games.
Trenin’s Upper-Body Injury
Yakov Trenin also faced an unfortunate injury during Game 2. With just over five minutes left in the first period, he suffered an upper-body injury from a blindside hit delivered by Dallas forward Colin Blackwell.
The collision resulted in Trenin sustaining a facial cut and forced him to exit the game. As a key physical player, Trenin led the NHL during the regular season with 413 hits and continues to demonstrate his value in the postseason, contributing 16 hits through the first two playoff games.
- Trenin’s regular-season stats: 23 points (6 goals, 17 assists) across 82 games.

As the Wild prepare for Game 3, the absence of both Zuccarello and Trenin presents a significant hurdle. The team’s ability to adjust and perform under pressure will be critical in their pursuit of playoff success.
