San Antonio Spurs forward Keldon Johnson has achieved a significant milestone by winning the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award. This announcement, made by the league on Wednesday, marks Johnson as the first player in Spurs history to score over 1,000 points from the bench in a season.
Keldon Johnson’s Record-Breaking Performance
During the 2022-23 NBA season, Johnson scored a remarkable 1,081 points off the bench, securing the second-highest total in the league. He expressed gratitude for this recognition, attributing his success to hard work and dedication. Johnson stated, “It’s just a testament to the hard work, the dedication that I’ve had to myself, to doing what I love to do.”
Competition and Recognition
Johnson’s main contenders for the award included Jaime Jaquez Jr. from Miami and Denver’s Tim Hardaway Jr. Jaquez led all reserves in scoring, while Hardaway topped the league with 205 three-pointers. In the voting, Johnson received 63 first-place votes compared to Jaquez’s 34.
