National School Volleyball Championships Begin Today

The 2nd edition of the National School Volleyball Championships has officially commenced today at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos. This four-day tournament has attracted schools from across Nigeria, showcasing the country’s growing interest in volleyball.

The championship is organized by the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF) in partnership with the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), with backing from the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC). The annual event aims to enhance volleyball within the school system and identify promising athletes.

- Bayelsa
- Adamawa

- Bauchi

NSSF President Olabisi Joseph expressed enthusiasm regarding the tournament’s ability to engage students nationwide. She encouraged competitors to serve as exemplary representatives of their schools. Successful athletes from this Lagos championship will have the chance to compete at the International School Sport Federation (ISF) World School Volleyball Championship, set for July 1-10 in China. This presents an exciting platform for young players to display their skills to global scouts.
Historical Context
The inaugural National School Volleyball Championships took place in Abuja, where local teams secured victories in both the boys’ and girls’ categories. Outstanding players from FCT Plateau and Kaduna State went on to represent Nigeria at the 2025 ISF World School Volleyball Championships in China.
This year’s championship promises to continue this legacy while promoting volleyball at the school level, offering young athletes a pathway to international competition.
