Mayor Bruno Marchand Cancels Croatia Trip Due to Health Concerns

Bruno Marchand, the Mayor of Quebec City, has canceled his upcoming trip to Croatia due to health concerns. These events come as he battles an early stage of pneumonia, which has left him bedridden at the start of a busy week.

Key Details of Mayor Marchand’s Situation

The mayor’s planned travel included attending a meeting from April 23 to 25 in Dubrovnik. This meeting is associated with the World Heritage Cities Organization, which he presides over. In a message posted on Facebook, Marchand stated, “I must take a few days to recover and rest.” He emphasized the importance of prioritizing his health during this time.

Rescheduling and Changes in Leadership

  • Marchand will miss essential commitments due to his health.
  • José María Bellido, the Mayor of Córdoba, will take over his responsibilities at the upcoming meeting.
  • This marks the second consecutive municipal council meeting Marchand will miss, having already been absent on March 31.

On the day he was supposed to depart, he had also planned to hold a media briefing before the council meeting and attend the swearing-in of the new Council of Ministers led by Christine Fréchette. Both events will now proceed without his participation.

Future Plans

After Dubrovnik, the mayor intended to extend his stay in Europe with additional commitments in Madrid from April 27 to 29. However, whether he will attend these events will depend on his recovery. A decision regarding this will be made later in the week.

In his absence, Acting Mayor Catherine Vallières-Roland will handle his commitments at both the city council and the National Assembly.
