The Malvern Town Council has officially announced a relocation of the new skatepark within Victoria Park. This adjustment aims to create a safer environment for both park users and the nearby Malvern Victoria Bowling Club.
Relocation of the Skatepark Addressing Safety Concerns
Initially, the skatepark was slated to be constructed closer to the bowling club. However, after a town council meeting in March, concerns regarding noise and safety were raised by club representatives. The bowling club highlighted issues about potential disturbances from skaters and the proximity of children on bikes and scooters to busy roadways.
Stakeholder Engagement and Site Adjustments
Following the concerns, several town councillors, including Anne Cherry, Karen Newbigging, and town clerk Linda Blake, engaged with the bowling club for further discussions. It was decided that the skatepark would be built further away from the club than originally planned. Additionally, safety measures such as fencing will be installed near the road to mitigate any potential risks.

Cllr Cherry, chair of the Skatepark Task and Finish Group, expressed satisfaction with the resolution. “We aimed to address the concerns of the Malvern Victoria Bowling Club while maximizing the usability of the space available,” she said.
Club captain Don Handy also expressed his approval of the new plans. He acknowledged the council’s responsiveness to their concerns and stated, “We have reached an agreeable situation.” Handy reinforced that the bowling club has always welcomed the idea of a skatepark in Victoria Park, as long as safety could be adequately ensured.
This constructive dialogue between the council and the bowling club has resulted in a solution that prioritizes the safety and enjoyment of all park users.
