Brad Jacobs Celebrates Second Olympic Gold at His Home Curling Club

Brad Jacobs recently celebrated his remarkable achievement of winning a second Olympic gold medal at his local curling club. This event took place at the YNCU Curling Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where Jacobs has spent much of his life honing his skills. The celebration was organized by the Soo Curlers Association alongside the city, drawing around 120 supporters.
Jacobs Reflects on His Olympic Journey
Jacobs, who won his first gold medal in Sochi, Russia, in 2014, expressed that while the 2014 medal is visually stunning, his latest victory holds greater personal significance. “I appreciate it a lot more this time,” he stated. His latest Olympic gold, achieved at the 2026 Milano Cortina Games, came at the age of 40, marking a challenging return to the sport.
A Tougher Competition Landscape
Jacobs highlighted the increasing difficulty in curling due to the rise of young talent from various countries. He remarked, “This one from Cortina was certainly well deserved. It was really, really tough.”
Addressing Controversy
During the event, Jacobs also addressed the cheating allegations that emerged during the Olympics. His teammate, Marc Kennedy, faced criticism for a disputed stone delivery. Jacobs responded emphatically to the negativity, asserting, “I hope the image of us on top of the podium with our gold medals is burned into your brains forever.”
Celebrating Community Support
In his speech, Jacobs expressed deep gratitude for the support he received throughout his curling journey. He recalled how he was introduced to the YNCU Curling Centre at the age of 10, which spurred his lifelong dedication to the sport. “I’m nothing without all of the people that have been there along this journey,” he emphasized.
Honoring Local Contributions
The event also served as a platform to honor his former coach, Tom Coulterman, who received the Janet Arnott Exceptional Coach Award from Curling Canada. Mayor Matthew Shoemaker remarked on how Jacobs’ success is intertwined with the entire curling community, emphasizing the collective efforts of coaches, teammates, and volunteers.
New Street Sign for Team Jacobs
As a part of the celebration, it was announced that a section of Anita Boulevard will be renamed to Team Jacobs Way, with the curling club as the only address affected. An official street sign ceremony will occur later. Jacobs humorously acknowledged the street renaming, noting his deep connection to the address.
