Cavs’ Allen Battles Persistent Knee Injury

Cleveland Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen is currently managing a persistent knee injury that kept him off the court for ten consecutive games last March. He described the condition as involving “a little pain” but believes he can still perform at a high level despite this ongoing issue.
Details on Jarrett Allen’s Injury
Allen’s knee injury is classified as severe tendinitis, which initially emerged during a game against the Detroit Pistons on March 3. As the Cavaliers secured the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference, the coaching staff decided to rest Allen in three out of the last five games of the regular season to facilitate recovery.
Rest and Performance Outlook
While Allen acknowledged that additional rest was beneficial, he does not expect his knee to fully recover soon. “I’d be lying if I said I would expect it to be 100%,” he stated. He indicated that dealing with such injuries is common as teams approach playoff season.
Allen’s Season Performance
Despite the challenges brought on by his knee injury, Jarrett Allen had an impressive season. Over 56 games, he recorded:
- 15.4 points per game
- 8.5 rebounds per game
- 1.8 assists per game
- 1 steal per game
He excelled in field-goal percentage, ranking fifth in the league at 63.8%, and also placed tenth in total rebound percentage at 17.2%. The Cavaliers benefited from Allen’s presence, scoring an additional 3.5 points per 100 possessions while he was on the court.
Playoff Outlook
The Cleveland Cavaliers are set to face the Toronto Raptors in the first round of the playoffs. Game 1 will commence at 1:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, and expectations are high for Allen as he continues to manage his knee condition while aiming for a deep playoff run.
