Oilers’ Knoblauch Updates on Walman and Janmark Injury Status

The Edmonton Oilers are facing injury challenges as they prepare for their season opener against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday. Coaches have provided updates on players Jake Walman and Mattias Janmark.

Walman Injury Status

Jake Walman’s availability for the game is uncertain. Coach Knoblauch described him as a “question mark” due to a recent setback. Initially, the team expected Walman to play, but his situation has now changed.

  • Walman participated in one pre-season game.
  • In that game against the Flames on September 21, he logged 21:59 minutes of ice time.
  • He recorded five shots on goal and one blocked shot.

The 29-year-old defenseman was acquired from the San Jose Sharks during the 2025 trade deadline. In the previous season, he played 15 regular-season games, scoring one goal and providing seven assists. Notably, he also contributed with two goals and eight assists in 22 postseason games.

Janmark Injury Update

Mattias Janmark is also sidelined, likely missing one to two weeks of action. Knoblauch indicated that Janmark is not expected to go on long-term injured reserve.

  • Janmark participated in three pre-season games this year.
  • His last appearance was against the Winnipeg Jets on September 26.

Last season, Janmark played 80 games for the Oilers, accumulating two goals and 16 assists.

With both players potentially out, the Oilers will need to adjust their roster and strategy ahead of the highly anticipated matchup against the Flames.
