DC Coach Confident in Auqib Nabi’s Success for IPL 2026
Delhi Capitals head coach Hemang Badani expressed confidence in fast-bowler Auqib Nabi ahead of their upcoming match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The game is set to take place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday. Despite a modest start to his IPL career, Nabi has received strong support from the team’s management.
Auqib Nabi’s Performance and Background
Auqib Nabi faced challenges during his debut match, where he went wicketless and conceded 17 runs in two overs against Chennai Super Kings. However, Nabi’s impressive record in the domestic circuit has kept him in the spotlight. Notably, he was a key player in leading Jammu & Kashmir to their first Ranji Trophy title.
- Leading Wicket-Taker: Nabi claimed 60 wickets in 10 matches during the 2025–26 red-ball season, averaging 12.56.
- Duleep Trophy Achievement: He achieved a double hat-trick for North Zone.
- Auction Success: Delhi Capitals acquired Nabi for Rs 8.40 crore, highlighting the high expectations placed on him.
Support from the Coaching Staff
Badani believes that the nerves common in a debut match affected Nabi but is optimistic about his potential. He stated, “Everyone has nerves in the first game. But I think he is somebody who will do well for us.”
Badani emphasized two attributes that attracted the franchise to Nabi: his temperament and consistency. He noted that Nabi remains composed during both good and bad performances, maintaining an equilibrium that is vital at the competitive level.
Delhi Capitals’ Current Form
So far, Delhi Capitals have had a mixed campaign with two wins and two losses. However, Badani downplayed the significance of momentum in the IPL, suggesting that focusing on areas for improvement is more crucial.
- Batting Consistency: The team’s batting lineup has shown the ability to consistently score over 180 runs.
- Future Matches: Following the game against RCB, Delhi Capitals will head to Hyderabad to play Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 21.
As the IPL 2026 season progresses, all eyes will be on Auqib Nabi and the Delhi Capitals as they strive for success on the field. Badani’s confidence in Nabi may prove to be a critical factor in the franchise’s aspirations for the season.
