Rodent Risk Prompts Recall of First National Bakery Products

FN Bakery has announced a recall of 18 Caribbean-style bread products due to potential rodent contamination at its West Bromwich facility. This recall was reported by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) on April 13.

Details of the Recall

The recalled items fall under the First National Bakery brand and include:

  • Sliced loaves
  • Unsliced loaves
  • Bulla bread
  • Coco bread
  • Corn bread
  • Buns
  • Mongoose
  • Twist
  • Wing

The FSA advises consumers not to consume these products. Instead, they should return any recalled items to their point of purchase for a full refund.

FN Bakery’s Operations

FN Bakery Limited operates out of the Kelvin Way Trading Estate in West Bromwich. The company supplies a variety of markets, retailers, and wholesalers across the nation. In a recent Facebook post, they emphasized their dedication to traditional West Indian-style loaves, noting that “the quality of our products is important to us.”

Background on Recalls

According to a recent analysis by British Baker, undeclared allergens are the most common cause of bakery product recalls. Other prevalent reasons include:

  • Contamination by foreign bodies
  • Microbial contamination
  • Labeling errors

For instance, just two months prior, Brioche Pasquier recalled its Pitch Chocolate and Hazelnut Brioches due to the risk of containing plastic fragments.

FN Bakery has not yet provided additional comments regarding the situation. Consumers are urged to remain vigilant and report any concerns related to food safety.
