Wycombe Wanderers Announces Matt Bloomfield’s Appointment

Luton Town Football Club has officially announced the departure of manager Matt Bloomfield. His tenure began in January when he joined the team from Wycombe Wanderers. Despite leading the team to a record of just two defeats in eleven matches towards the end of the 2024/25 season, Luton could not avoid relegation from the Championship after a loss to West Bromwich Albion.

The Board of Directors cited disappointing performances and results in the opening eleven matches of the current League One campaign as factors leading to their decision. Alongside Bloomfield, assistant coach Richard Thomas, first team coach Lee Harrison, and first team analyst Ben Cirne were also relieved of their duties.

Interim Management and Future Plans

The Board expressed gratitude towards Bloomfield and his staff for their efforts during challenging times and wished them success in future endeavors. In the interim, Alex Lawless will take charge of the team, supported by Paul Benson, Kevin Foley, and Kevin Pilkington. The interim management will have their first test on Tuesday in the Vertu Trophy against Cambridge United.

Next Steps for Luton Town

Luton Town has two weeks for training before their next league match. During this period, the club will start the process to find a new manager. The search will be conducted by a committee that includes members from the executive team, recruitment, football staff, and the board.

  • Former Manager: Matt Bloomfield
  • Previous Club: Wycombe Wanderers
  • Key Matches: Last match against West Bromwich Albion
  • Interim Manager: Alex Lawless
  • Next Match: Vertu Trophy vs. Cambridge United

No further comments will be made by the club at this time as they navigate this transitional period.
