Val Sweeting Strengthens Kayla MacMillan’s Curling Team

Val Sweeting, an accomplished eight-time Grand Slam title winner, has joined Kayla MacMillan’s curling team, as announced on social media by the Victoria-based club. Sweeting transitions after spending eight seasons at third with Kerri Einarson’s team from Gimli, Manitoba.

Val Sweeting’s Impressive Track Record

Sweeting has had a successful curling career, highlighted by her recent accomplishments. She secured her fifth Scotties Tournament of Hearts title with Einarson in February. Following this, she claimed silver at the World Women’s Curling Championship last month.

  • 5-time Scotties Tournament of Hearts Champion
  • Silver Medal at World Women’s Curling Championship 2023
  • Back-to-back Bronze Medals at Women’s Worlds in 2022 and 2023

Changes in Team Dynamics

In a recent restructuring, MacMillan’s team parted ways with third Brittany Tran and alternate Sarah Loken. Sweeting’s addition is set to bolster the team’s performance alongside second Lindsay Dubue and lead Lauren Lenentine.

Meanwhile, Einarson’s reconfigured roster will see Shannon Birchard step up to third position. Karlee Burgess will take on the role of second, with Jocelyn Peterman joining as the new lead and managing vice skip responsibilities.

This significant team change aims to enhance their competitiveness in upcoming events.
