Eddie Irvine Critiques Lewis Hamilton Following Ferrari’s Podium Finish

In recent discussions regarding Formula 1, former Ferrari driver Eddie Irvine has addressed the performance of Lewis Hamilton after his recent podium finish in the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix. While Hamilton celebrated his first podium with Ferrari, Irvine urged caution in declaring that the seven-time champion has fully returned to form.

Eddie Irvine on Hamilton’s Performance

Irvine remarked that although Hamilton secured a podium in China, it was essential to consider the context. “In China, he finished on the podium for the first time with Ferrari, but that’s his circuit,” he stated. He also noted that during the previous races, particularly in Japan, Charles Leclerc had consistently outperformed Hamilton.

Hamilton’s 2026 Season So Far

This season, Hamilton has approached F1 2026 with a renewed mindset following a challenging initial year with Ferrari. The Scuderia has demonstrated a competitive spirit, appearing on every podium thus far. The results this year include:

  • Charles Leclerc: Third at the Australian Grand Prix
  • Charles Leclerc: Third at the Japanese Grand Prix
  • Lewis Hamilton: First Ferrari podium at the Chinese Grand Prix

Ferrari’s Potential Title Challenge

Irvine discussed Ferrari’s potential to contend for the Constructors’ Championship, the last of which was won in 2008. He acknowledged their improved standings this season but highlighted the challenges they face due to their geographic distance from the heart of F1, located in the UK. “The problem is the distance from the heart of the F1 world,” Irvine explained. “Compared to last year, though, I think they can secure at least one victory.”

Hamilton’s Future in F1

As speculation continues around Hamilton’s status in F1 2026, Irvine’s insights underline the uncertainty still surrounding the driver’s return to peak performance. While Hamilton’s podium in Shanghai marked a significant achievement, it remains to be seen how he will perform in future races. Fans and analysts alike are keen to see if he can continue to challenge at the front.
