New Leaders Appointed for Sanmartiniano and Eva Perón Institutes

The Argentine government has appointed new leaders for the Sanmartiniano Institute and the Eva Perón Historical Research Institute. This decision was announced in the official bulletin, confirming Juan Martín Repetto as the director of the Eva Perón Institute.

New Leadership for Historical Institutions

Juan Martín Repetto has been appointed to lead the Eva Perón Historical Research Institute, effectively fulfilling a role he temporarily held since August 2025. He will serve for a period of two years in an “ad honórem” capacity, meaning he will not receive payment.

The appointment follows a proposal from the Ministry of Culture, which followed the selection process established in the original 1998 decree regarding the institute’s governance.

Repetto’s Background and Experience

  • Former president of the National Commission of Museums, Monuments, and Historic Sites.
  • Served as Director of National Heritage and Museums from 2002 to 2003.
  • Resigned from the National Commission in 2018, citing personal reasons.

Repetto’s background in cultural heritage makes him a suitable choice to promote Eva Perón’s historical significance in Argentine society. The Eva Perón Institute is a crucial cultural establishment under the National Culture Secretariat, devoted to deepening understanding of this influential political figure.

Institute of Sanmartiniano Leadership Change

Alongside Repetto, Hernán Federico Cornut has been appointed as the president of the Sanmartiniano Institute. This appointment is also in an “ad honórem” capacity and will last for three years, aimed at addressing the leadership vacancy.

Cornut’s Qualifications

  • Colonel Major, graduated from the Military College of the Nation in 1982.
  • Awarded the Palmas Sanmartinianas for outstanding contributions to San Martín’s legacy.
  • Recipient of multiple distinctions, including the United Nations Medal for mission service in Croatia.

The Sanmartiniano Institute, established on April 5, 1933, by the law No. 15.538, focuses on investigating and disseminating the life and thoughts of General José de San Martín, a key figure in Argentina’s history. Cornut’s experience and prior accolades reinforce his capability to lead this significant cultural institution.

Both appointments reflect the government’s commitment to preserving Argentine history through effective leadership and management of its cultural institutions.
