Manager Clarifies UFC 327 Title Shift and Shares Key Athlete Updates

The UFC flyweight title bout initially slated for UFC 327 has been rescheduled. This critical fight features Joshua Van and Tatsuro Taira and will now occur at UFC 328 on May 6 in Newark. The announcement was made by Jason House, CEO of Iridium Sports Agency, ahead of the event at Kaseya Center.

Adjustment of Fight Schedule

The decision to postpone the fight stemmed from an undisclosed injury that Joshua Van sustained. After undergoing medical testing in Las Vegas, it was deemed in Van’s best interest to delay the bout by a few weeks. House stated, “It was extremely difficult. He was devastated. He really wanted to be on this event in Miami.”

Benefits of the Delay

Both fighters benefit from this delay. Tatsuro Taira has been training in the U.S. and was at risk of losing this opportunity. “Thankfully, we were able to keep the fight together,” House elaborated.

Updates on Other Flyweight Athletes

  • Brandon Royval: The key contender is expected to have a fight announcement soon. Discussions for his summer return are underway.
  • Brandon Moreno: Former champion Moreno experienced a setback against Lone’er Kavanagh in February but is not finished competing. House plans to discuss Moreno’s next steps in the coming weeks.

Upcoming Prospects

House did not disclose specific opponents for Royval, but noted that the only top-10 flyweights without scheduled fights are Amir Albazi and Alexandre Pantoja. As for Moreno, he is currently taking time away with family and intends to return soon, possibly around Noche.

Overall, these developments indicate an evolving landscape within the UFC flyweight division, especially with significant bouts and athlete adjustments on the horizon.
