Le Festif! Shifts Focus Away from Major International Stars

The Festif! music festival in Baie-Saint-Paul is entering its 17th edition with a notable shift in direction. Instead of focusing solely on major international stars, the festival is embracing a diverse lineup of local and lesser-known artists. This approach not only provides a unique experience for festival-goers but also keeps costs manageable.

Highlights of The Festif!

Clément Turgeon, the festival director, emphasized the festival’s extensive scope, boasting 38 stages and 120 artists. The commitment to highlighting niche acts has been acknowledged with the Félix award for Event of the Year at the recent ADISQ Gala.

Artist Lineup

This year, the festival features a mix of renowned Quebec artists and exciting emerging talents. Some of the key names include:

  • Lou-Adriane Cassidy
  • JF Pauzé
  • Les Louanges
  • Loud
  • Kinji00
  • Pierre Lapointe
  • Louis-Jean Cormier
  • Gab Bouchard
  • Marjo
  • Dead Obies

International Presence

Notably, 30% of the acts are international. Highlights from abroad include:

  • Heavy Lungs (UK)
  • Souls of Mischief (USA)
  • The Halluci Nation (Canada)
  • Otoboke Beaver (Japan)
  • African Head Charge (UK/Jamaica)

This blend of local and overseas talent aims to create an unforgettable experience for festival-goers. Turgeon noted the importance of selecting artists that resonate well with attendees, often based on personal discoveries during travels and other festivals.

Accessibility and Experience Enhancement

The Festif! aims to maintain its accessibility despite the rising costs associated with inflation. Over 50% of the shows will remain free, primarily supported by sponsorships. Efforts are underway to enhance the overall festival experience. This includes improved stage designs and gathering spaces that promise a welcoming atmosphere for attendees.

Additionally, the festival introduces 25 fully equipped camping options near the Quai Bell stage, catering to attendees seeking alternative accommodations amidst hotel shortages.

Community and Engagement

This year, the initiative “J’écoute le show” returns, encouraging attendees to create a respectful listening environment by minimizing chatter during performances.

With its diverse lineup and commitment to enhancing the festival experience, The Festif! is poised to deliver another memorable event. For more details on the 2023 programming, visit El-Balad.
